Abstract
In this paper, we demonstrate the value of operationalising inclusive growth as a basis for understanding heterogeneity in development within the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, a remote, predominantly rural region of northern Europe. A transdisciplinary process was used to construct a regionally appropriate framework of inclusive growth, which was operationalised at a local level by identifying underlying dimensions of inclusive growth 'performance' and clusters of locations with similar characteristics. Applying a spatial justice lens to contrasting intersections of broader, regionally-informed understandings of prosperity and inclusion enhances the applicability of inclusive growth as a means of understanding the wellbeing economy.
