For the purposes of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), please note that the James Hutton Institute's Data Protection Officer is Thorntons Law LLP, effective from 1st February 2018.

Should you have any queries relating to data Subject Access Requests (SAR) including e.g. if you wish to submit a request for rectification to your personal data held by the Institute, to request that it stops processing your personal data, to withdraw your consent to the Institute's processing, or to ask the Institute to delete all personal data it holds on you, please contact in the first instance Evangelia Apostolakopoulou, Information Governance Officer, James Hutton Institute, on Evangelia.Apostolakopoulou@hutton.ac.uk.

Freedom of Information

Biomathematics & Statistics Scotland (BioSS) is part of The James Hutton Institute (Hutton) and as such is subject to the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (FOISA) and the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (EIR). Hutton is committed to the principles which underpin FOISA and EIR which provides a general right of access to much of the information it holds thus ensuring greater openness, transparency, and accountability

The Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (the Act) requires Scottish public authorities to produce and maintain a publication scheme.

Authorities are under a legal obligation to:

  • publish the classes of information that they make routinely available
  • tell the public how to access the information and what it might cost

The James Hutton Institute has adopted the Model Publication Scheme 2015 produced by the Scottish Information Commissioner. Full details are available on the James Hutton Institute website.
