I have recently been appointed Head of Operations. This is a BioSS Executive role.
In this role, I lead on governance and support development and implementation of our science strategy to achieve sustainable growth. I am the key point of contact between the BioSS Executive and Leadership Team, and represents BioSS in operational and management committees at our parent organisation, the James Hutton Institute, working closely with Hutton senior management. I manage and lead day-to-day operations by overseeing BioSS functional area teams (HSQE, finance, information and communication), with responsibility for devising and implementing the long-term strategic operational vision of BioSS. I also engage and work with senior colleagues in third party organisations, such as RESAS (the Rural and Environment Science and Analytical Services division of the Scottish Government) and the SEFARI (Scottish Environment, Food and Agriculture Research Institutions), and units within the University of Edinburgh.
Before this, I joined BioSS in May 2022 taking up a new role as Research Operations Manager. Since then, I have been shaping this role working closely with BioSS Executives and Leadership Team. My role was broad, mostly related to ongoing and strategic support to resources and projects management, income generation and knowledge exchange, and head of the Admin Team. I have also been the Quality Manager for BioSS and a key contact point of liaison internally (between BioSS staff and Executives) and externally (with the Hutton Institute, the other SEFARI and RESAS).
Since joining BioSS, I have obtained a Master in Business Administration, which supports my day to day work. Prior to BioSS, I gained over five years of experience at the research-innovation interface, with a track-record of business development and strategic advice on organisational knowledge exchange policies as well as project management. I have enabled successful delivery of projects spanning from sensors to robotics, from data analytics to transition to clean energy, through to developing the blue-green economy potential and applying research to sustainable construction. I have wide experience and interests in natural, life, and social sciences (MSc in Psychology), partly obtained during my previous career as a neuroscientist (Ph.D. and post-doc), partly thanks to personal interests.
Extensive track-record can be viewed on my LinkedIn profile.
