BioSS session "Statistics and Decision Making in the UK" at IDWSDS2025
The 2025 International Day of Women in Statistics and Data Science conference was held virtually on October 14, 2025 and hosted by the Caucus for Women in Statistics and Data Science. This year’s theme was “Thriving in Your Environment” and BioSS had the privilege to host speakers Prof. Sallie Bailey (Natural England Chief Scientist) and Ms Manira Ahmad (Public Health Scotland Chief Officer) for a session on "Statistics and Decision Making in the UK".
In this session that covered a range of topics from biodiversity and health challenges to the impacts and new possibilities unlocked by AI, both speakers showcased the impressive range of work they are both leading at Natural England & Public Health Scotland respectively, in both cases with a clear inclusive focus to "Make the invisible visible" (from the services provided by nature that underpin humanity to the voices of those who are suffering greater inequalities).
The session recording will be available on the CWS YouTube Channel
