I have been working at BioSS since 1999, and I am the coordinator of the statistical bioinformatics research theme.
My research seeks generic solutions to specific applied problems in bioinformatics and computational biology, aiming to interpret the increasing amount of molecular biological data. The problems I am facing are essentially statistical, due to the inherent complexity and stochasticity of biological systems, the random processes intrinsic to transcription intitation, signal transduction and evolution, and the unavoidable error-proneness and variability of measurements in large-scale experimental procedures. My research therefore focuses on the development of probabilistic models, which allow robust inference in the presence of noise.
