Activities

The BioSS IT group consisits of the IT Manager, two programming and support staff and the assistance of an EUIS staff member for one day a week. We provide support for around 25 staff, students and vistors in Edinburgh; a further 20 staff & students at other sites and assist external collaborators who access BioSS IT services.

Staff use a range of standard statistical and mathematical software - Genstat, Minitab, S-Plus, R, SAS, WinBUGS, MATLAB, Octave, Maple, Scilab as well as specialist software for image processing. Much of the statistical modelling work involves home grown programs in Fortran, C, C++ and Java, utilising commercial and freeware libraries.

We have experience of developing software with graphical interfaces using Visual Basic/C++ (STAR, MAPP), C# (2D ultrasound segmentation tool) and Java (TOPALi) and providing interfaces to databases (Var-Adapt and VISOR)
