Royal Statistical Society Edinburgh Local group

Welcome to the webpages of the Edinburgh local group of the Royal Statistical Society. We arrange an annual programme of talks and workshops intended to appeal to anyone with an interest in statistics. All of our events are free, and are open both to members of the RSS and to non-members. We typically organise 6-8 events per year, which are usually held on a tuesday evening. Refreshments are available beforehand, and events are usually followed by a trip to either a pub or a restaurant.

Directions to venue

• Enter via Doorway 1 (opposite servitors office), Old Medical School Quadrangle, Teviot Place and walk up or take the lift to the 2nd floor; go through the first pair of swing doors. The Sydney Smith Lecture Theatre will be facing you.
• The lift can be found on the right after going through the swing doors on the ground floor.
• Lothian Bus services numbered 2, 23, 27, 35, 41 and 42 stop close to the venue.

Abstract
In 2005, Lancaster University was awarded a large HEFCE grant to fund a Centre of Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL). The Lancaster Postgraduate Statistics Centre has the core aim of promoting excellence in teaching statistics to postgraduates across a range of disciplines. For those wanting to continue in higher education, we have two MSc programmes and a PhD programme. For those in employment, wishing to improve their statistical skills, we hold short professional development courses, introductory workshops and masterclasses. This talk will highlight the work of the centre, including the range of training opportunities available for enhancing quantitative skills.
