Research Interests

I have been employed as a postdoctoral researcher at BioSS since 2004, and have research interests in environmental risk assessment, extreme value methods, and spatio-temporal modelling.

I am currently employed on a number of distinct projects:

  • BioSS Alarm website logo Statistical input to the ALARM project, an EU-funded project to assess large-scale environmental risks to European biodiversity with tested methods: see the ALARM@BioSS webpage for more information.
  • Statistical research, publicly funded through the Scottish Executive's rural and environmental research programme, to develop latent Gaussian models for environmental data, working with Chris Glaseby.
  • External contract work.

I have a PhD on the statistical modelling of synthetic oceanographic extremes (2005) and a BSc in Statistics (2001), both from Lancaster University. My PhD was supervised by Janet Heffernan and Jonathan Tawn, and was in collaboration with Roger Flather from the Proudman Oceanographic Laboratory. I have also worked at CEH Monks Wood.
