The other sub-window, the Command Window is the core of the S-Plus system. Every operation performed by menus and buttons can also be done directly from the command window, and there are some functions that can only be done here. The other use of this window is to show the output from statistical commands entered from the toolbars.
The main toolbar has all the usual commands, including Open, Print, Copy, Paste and Undo but also contains buttons to open the Command Window, the Object Browser, the History Log or a new Graph Sheet and to create 2D and 3D graphs. The toolbars in S-Plus are context-sensitive which means that if you open a Graph Sheet, for example, extra buttons will appear in the toolbar that are specific to Graph Sheets.
Graph Sheets are the windows in which graphs are drawn. Double-clicking on components of graphs allows them to be edited using menus and dialog boxes. Labels, colours and axes can be modified or redefined in this way. The Insert menu is useful for adding items to graphs already created in a Graph sheet.
