Planting mixtures of crop varieties, each resistant
to different strains of a pathogen, offers the
potential in the short term to reduce disease
severity and reliance on chemical interventions
and in the long term to increase the life span of
resistant varieties. We have developed interactive
software that allows our collaborators to
define initial pathogen populations and spatial
arrangements of crop varieties. The code then
simulates the resultant infection dynamics,
allowing changes in the structure of the pathogen
population over time to be visualised.
