Abstract
Time use patterns provide direct information about individuals or population social behavior, highlighting differences, similarities or changes in their way of life which are not easily measured by common social and economic indexes. That knownledge is especially relevant for policy makers, in fact many OECD official statistics institutes are now incluiding it as part of their output. Technically, time use data are multivariate constrained data: non-negativity and constant-sum contraints. This work illustrates the application of the compositional approach for the statistical analysis of the Spanish time use patterns.
