Our guest speaker, Professor Lievesley, is Head of the School of Social Science and Public Policy at King's College London. Her many interactions both within and outwith the research community have enabled her to develop a broad view of the role of statistics in science and society. She is a strong advocate for evidence-based policy and the benefits that modern statistical methods bring to policy development and scientific discovery. Her expertise and experience is reflected in her past roles as Director of Statistics at UNESCO and founding Chief Executive of the NHS Information Centre for Health and Social Care and in her election to prestigious positions including President of the Royal Statistical Society and President of the International Statistics Institute. She is currently a member of the Steering Committee for the International Year of Statistics (Statistics2013).
